The Lord of the Rings is a three-part film series set in a fictional world of Middle-earth based on a novel written by J. R. R. Tolkien. The film revolves around the destruction of One Ring and its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron, by hobbits and Frodo Baggins. The film parts have further subtitled The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003), directed by Peter Jackson.

All three parts were entirely filmed in New Zealand from the year 1999 to 2000.
