Robert Nesta Marley OM was born on 6 February 1945 in Nine Mile, British Jamaica. He was a Jamaican musician, singer, and songwriter whose contributions to music increased the popularity of Jamaican music worldwide. Though he was a catholic, in the 1960s, he became interested in Rastafari beliefs and, after formal conversion, began to grow dreadlocks.
