Mike Tyson Facts
Mike Tyson’s father left the family when he was just 2 years old. This led to financial crises in the family. He has one elder brother, Rodney, and an elder sister, Denise, who died in 1990.
In his childhood, he was often a soft target of bullying. To overcome this, he started street fighting, which resulted in criminal activity. He was arrested around 38 times till he reached 13.
When Tyson was in prison in his younger days, boxing legend Muhammad Ali visited him and guided him to start a career in boxing and gave him the right direction.
His mother, Lorna Tyson, died of cancer in 1982, after which Cus D’Amato, his boxing coach, became his legal guardian.
In 1997, he bit boxer Evander Holyfield’s ear in a heavyweight championship fight. He was disqualified, and Holyfield was declared the winner. This incident posted a black mark on his sportsmanship.
In 1991, Mike Tyson was charged for raping a Miss Black America contestant. He was arrested and imprisoned for 6 years but was released after 3 years.
He has unusual pet likings. He has 3 Royal Bengal Tigers, on which he spends around $4000 every month. He is well known for his deep love for pigeons.
